Daily Investment Morning Brief

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 | 8:00 AM KST
Research period: November 2 U.S. trading session and subsequent developments.

Compared with the November 2 brief. This report focuses on new developments and changes in the investment arguments.

Today's most important finding: AI demand remains strong, but investors are increasingly questioning how much companies must spend—and how much shareholders must sacrifice—to capture it.

Oracle announced a major financing plan, Marvell agreed to an enormous acquisition, and Palantir reported exceptional growth. The market reacted differently to each, but the underlying question is similar: Will future profits justify today's investment and valuation?

This is not a market-wide collapse. On November 2, the Nasdaq fell 1.07%, while the Dow gained 0.41%. The selloff remained concentrated in particular companies and industries. (Reuters)

1. Deep dives

ORCL — Investors may be misreading Oracle's financing announcement, but their underlying concern is justified

Finding: Oracle did not necessarily contradict its earlier financing promise. The more important question is why it needs so much money immediately.

On October 28, Oracle told investors it would limit additional capital raising through fiscal 2030 to $20 billion, excluding refinancing.

On November 2, it announced plans to raise $20 billion through debt and equity sales.

Oracle shares fell almost 9%, while the price of its existing long-term bonds also declined. This matters because bond investors are directly exposed to the company's ability to service its debt. (Oracle Investor Relations) Community debate: In a November 2 r/stocks discussion one investor argued that Oracle had contradicted its promise within a week. The commenter interpreted the announcement as evidence that the AI investment boom was becoming financially unsustainable.

That interpretation contains a mistake.

Oracle's October 28 statement established a maximum additional financing amount. It did not promise to raise that money gradually.

The November 2 plan is therefore consistent with the stated limit, provided Oracle does not subsequently exceed it.

But this does not eliminate the financial risk.

Oracle already reported approximately $125 billion in borrowings as of August 31. Management expects free cash flow to turn positive only in the second half of fiscal 2028. (Reuters) My assessment: The stronger bearish argument is not that Oracle misled investors. It is that the company is committing enormous capital before its AI infrastructure generates enough cash to finance itself.

The bullish case depends on customer commitments eventually turning into profitable revenue.

What to watch: Whether customer prepayments and operating cash flow reduce Oracle's financing needs, and whether debt-market confidence stabilizes.

If Oracle requires further substantial financing beyond its stated plan, the bearish argument becomes considerably stronger.

MRVL / LITE — A $115 billion acquisition exposes a misunderstanding about stock-based deals

Finding: Lumentum's shareholders are not being promised $1,132 per share. They are being promised Marvell shares.

On November 2, Marvell announced an agreement to acquire Lumentum, a manufacturer of optical components used in high-speed data-center connections.

The transaction has an announced enterprise value of approximately $115 billion.

Under the agreement, each Lumentum share will be exchanged for 4.5 Marvell shares.

The widely reported $1,132 valuation was calculated using stock prices from October 28. It is not a guaranteed cash payment. (SEC) This distinction became particularly important when Marvell fell 13% and Lumentum declined 18.6% on Monday. (Reuters) Community debate: In a direct r/stocks discussion one Lumentum investor questioned whether to sell the Marvell shares received after the merger.

A separate r/wallstreetbets discussion included investors questioning how companies could finance such enormous acquisitions.

The second concern partly misunderstands the deal: Marvell is offering its own shares rather than paying the full purchase price in cash.

But issuing shares transfers ownership of part of the combined business to Lumentum shareholders.

My assessment: This is not evidence that demand for optical networking equipment has suddenly collapsed.

It is evidence that investors are questioning the price Marvell is paying, the dilution to existing shareholders, and the risks of a complicated acquisition.

The industrial logic is credible. AI systems increasingly require faster connections between chips and data centers.

However, management's projected synergies are not yet realized profits.

What to watch: Merger approval, expected to require significant regulatory review, and whether Marvell can demonstrate that combining its technology with Lumentum's produces enough additional earnings to justify the transaction.

A large apparent discount between Lumentum's market price and the originally announced value is not automatically an arbitrage opportunity. The value of the shares to be received moves with Marvell's stock, and the transaction could fail.

PLTR — The business is growing exceptionally fast, but the valuation debate remains unresolved

Finding: Palantir's earnings weaken the argument that AI software demand is imaginary. They do not establish that Palantir shares are inexpensive.

Palantir reported third-quarter revenue growth of approximately 96% on November 2.

More importantly, revenue from U.S. commercial customers exceeded revenue from U.S. government customers for the first time.

Its fourth-quarter revenue guidance also exceeded analysts' expectations.

The shares were approximately 1% higher in volatile after-hours trading after falling 3.1% during the regular session. (Reuters) Community debate: Two directly reviewed discussions illustrate the disagreement.

In r/stocks skeptical investors questioned how such strong revenue growth could justify the company's valuation.

In r/wallstreetbets some participants emphasized Palantir's operating performance, while others argued that years of unusually rapid growth were already reflected in the share price.

These are individual comments, not a representative investor survey.

The important distinction: Palantir's commercial expansion demonstrates that customers are adopting its software.

However, its share price reflects expectations about many years of future growth, not just the latest quarter.

That creates two separate investment questions: Will Palantir continue growing rapidly? And will it grow rapidly enough to justify the price investors are paying?

My assessment: The operating evidence favors the bulls. The valuation argument remains open.

The strongest bearish case is not that Palantir lacks real demand. It is that even excellent execution may produce disappointing investment returns when expectations are exceptionally high.

What to watch: Whether commercial customer spending continues expanding after initial deployments, rather than merely reflecting an unusually strong period of new contract wins.

Sustained commercial growth combined with improving profitability would strengthen the bullish case. Slowing customer expansion while the valuation remains elevated would strengthen the bearish case.

Binance / BNB — Better reserve transparency does not eliminate the cost of restoring confidence

Finding: Binance has made measurable progress since yesterday, but restoring stolen assets has consumed part of its financial protection system.

Yesterday's report described approximately $3.64 billion in early net withdrawals after Binance reopened.

Reuters subsequently reported cumulative net withdrawals of $4.72 billion, approximately 3% of assets held on the platform.

That is a substantial amount of money, but it is not evidence of an immediate liquidity failure. Binance continued processing withdrawals. (Reuters) The most important new development came on November 2.

Binance announced that users could independently verify reserve backing for ten major cryptocurrencies using a newly generated cryptographic proof.

The verification uses a reserve snapshot from October 31.

Binance also said approximately 95% of affected assets had been replenished. (Binance) This improves transparency, but three questions remain distinct.

A point-in-time reserve proof is not a complete audit of a company's finances. It does not necessarily establish the condition of every asset, liability, or corporate obligation.

Separately, Cointelegraph reported that Binance used approximately half the Bitcoin in its publicly disclosed emergency protection wallet during the recovery. That may reduce its capacity to absorb another incident unless the fund is replenished. (Cointelegraph) Market and community interpretation: The relatively limited proportional withdrawals support the argument that customers have not collectively abandoned the exchange. The remaining protection-fund concerns support a more cautious view. I could not verify enough new direct Reddit or X discussion to establish a representative change in Binance-user sentiment.

My assessment: The evidence increasingly favors operational stabilization. It does not yet establish that all financial and security risks have been resolved.

What to watch: Continued withdrawals, replenishment of emergency reserves, and the next proof-of-reserves snapshot scheduled for November 4.

2. Other material developments

Apple — A useful counterexample to the AI spending problem

Apple reported better-than-expected results after Monday's close, helped by demand for its iPhone 18 Pro lineup.

Its shares were approximately flat in after-hours trading.

The interesting detail is that Apple used higher selling prices to help offset rising memory costs. (Reuters) This connects directly to yesterday's analysis of SK Hynix and Samsung.

My interpretation: Memory manufacturers may enjoy exceptional pricing power while their customers experience pressure on margins.

Apple's response demonstrates that some customers can pass those costs on to consumers. Others may not be able to.

The next question is whether higher device prices eventually weaken demand.

Derivatives — The Marvell transaction is also a warning about apparent merger arbitrage

Investors sometimes buy a takeover target when its shares trade below the announced acquisition value.

But Marvell's deal illustrates why that gap cannot be interpreted without examining the contract.

The consideration is a fixed number of MRVL shares, not a fixed dollar amount.

An investor buying LITE is therefore indirectly exposed to movements in MRVL as well as the probability of the transaction closing.

A properly structured merger-arbitrage trade would need to consider both exposures, borrowing costs, transaction timing, and failure risk.

The announced transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2028, making this a particularly long-duration and uncertain situation. (SEC) I do not consider the apparent price gap sufficient evidence of a trading opportunity.

RWAs — No verified new catalyst, but a useful data-quality warning

The RWA.xyz dashboard reported approximately $39.05 billion in distributed asset value and $397.98 billion in represented asset value in its November 2 snapshot.

These are different measures and should not be added together or interpreted as equivalent investor holdings. (RWA.xyz) I found no sufficiently verified November 2 issuer development that materially changes the investment thesis for an individual tokenized asset.

An important continuing caution concerns tokenized Treasury products: a decline in a dashboard's total asset value does not necessarily mean investors suffered an equivalent loss. Redemptions can reduce assets under management without causing a comparable decline in net asset value per share.

3. Bottom line

Today's strongest research finding is that the AI market is separating operating success from financing and valuation risk.

Oracle must prove it can fund expansion without continually raising capital. Marvell must prove its enormous acquisition creates enough additional value. Palantir must grow fast enough to justify unusually high expectations.

Those are three different financial problems, even though all three companies benefit from AI demand.

For cryptocurrency, Binance's published reserve proof represents progress, but the condition of its remaining protection funds and the restoration of customer confidence remain important.

I found no sufficiently supported new trading strategy to classify as credible alpha.

The community evidence comes from selected directly accessible discussions, not representative surveys. Forum narratives can be biased or manipulated, and market positioning can change quickly. This report is research, not investment advice.
